Vinterbryg from HarboePhoto of Vinterbryg and Aargangs Bryg

Harboe Bryggeri, the danish brewer, has introduced to new beers, a Vinterbryg (Wintherbrew), 5,9 %, brewed specialy to the discount store Netto, and Harboe's usual Årgangs Bryg 2001, 10%.

Faxe Classic on bottle

Faxe, part of the danish Bryggerigruppen, have the last year sold "Faxe 1901 Classic" as draught beer, but from new year celebrate the brewery its 100 years birthsday with a relase of "Faxe 1901 Classic" in bottles.

Brau und Brunnen in Germany takes to pieces

According to "Wirtschaftswoche" will Brau und Brunnen, one of Germanys largest beer-concerns, be taken to pieces. The brands "Schultheiss" and "Brinkhoff’s Nr. 1", and maybe others will be sold in ordre to save the firm.

Only the beer-brand Jever and the alcohol free drinks will be left.

Veltins and Warsteiner looks at BuB brands

The Veltins and Warsteiner Brewerys in Germany has shown interest in some of Brau und Brunnens brands. Veltins looks at Schlösser Alt, and Warsteiner looks at the Iserlohner Brauerei and the brands Gilden, Sion and Küppers.

The interest comes short after the manager Rainer Verstynen has retired from Brau und Brunnen.

Carlsberg in joint venture in Asia

The Danish brewer Carlsberg A/S has signed an agreement with the Asian Chang Beverage Company to form Carlsberg Asia Ltd., a 50-50 joint venture that will administrate and develop the companies' marketing and brewing activities in the Asian region.

Carlsberg Asia will, through its own breweries and licensed operations, brew 17 million hectolitres of beer in its first year of operation. Carlsberg beer is expected to represent 2 million of this volume.

The new company will be established on January 1, 2001 with the head office in Singapore. Carlsberg will contribute all of its Asian interests (both shareholdings and licensed activities) while Chang Beverage Company will contribute its 49% interest in Carlsberg Brewery (Thailand) Co. Ltd.

Carlsberg must sell seven brands

The Swedish competition authorities have given conditional approval to Carlsberg A/S and Orkla ASA to merge their Swedish breweries Falcon and Pripps

The Swedish authorities have requested that the following brands be sold: Three Towns, Fat, Arboga, Eagle, Bayerbrau, Starkbock and Sailor. Furthermore, Falcon and Pripps will have to give up their rights to distribute the five imported brands, Lapin Kulta, Warsteiner, Caffrey's, Bass and Staropramen. Falcon will have to stop its current joint distribution agreement with Coca-Cola Drycker Sverige, and Carlsberg A/S will have to dispose of its indirect ownership of Coca-Cola Drycker Sverige. Coca-Cola Drycker Sverige is owned by Coca-Cola Nordic Beverages (CCNB).

It means that Carlsberg Sweden AB will lose around 11 per cent of its market share and reduce its total beer market share to approx. 45 per cent.

Carlsberg A/S accepts the Swedish authorities' decision.

The german brewery Beck GmbH & Co is enable to look back on the most succesfull year in the history of the brewery. The sale rose seven per cent too 4,4 m hectoliter. The turnover reach, with 1,66 b DM, a plus at 3,7 per cent.

A new depositsystem will kill the small beerimporters i Denmark. The danes will lose the many specialbeers from the stores, and the consumers must pay the bill.

Fine debut for Interbrew

Interbrew, the world’s second lagest brewer, got a fine debut on the belgian stock market Euronext on the first day. The price per stock rose from 33 euro to 35 euro.

Interbrew sell about 21 per cent of the company.

Carlsberg better than expected

Carlsbergs, the danish brewer, improvement in results is greater than expected with operating profit rising to DKK 2355m.

The comparable change in volume is 3 per cent up on last year (beer: 41m hl and soft drinks: 16m hl).

The Carlsberg Group's beer and soft drink sales increased by 1 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively compared to last year. Before the changes in the basis of accounts, growth was up by a total of 3 per cent on last year.

The turnover of the Carlsberg Group for the first 12 months amounted to DKK 37.9bn against DKK 31.2bn for the same period last year (+17%). The comparable increase is 7 per cent and is mainly attributable to soft drink sales in Coca-Cola Nordic Beverages (CCNB), acquisitions of wholesale operations in Italy through the subsidiary Carlsberg Italia S.p.A., and positive exchange rate developments.

Carlsberg succes in Thailand

Thailand Carlsberg Brewery has succes i Thailand. The brewery have conquer 70 per cent of the market in just six years.

I 1994 was the first brewery build, now is a third under construction in the northwest corner of Thailand.

Det local beerbrand Chang, are the most popular beer in Thailand, with 65 per cent of the market. Carlsberg Beer have about four per cent of the market.

Carlsberg owns 10 per cent of Thailand Carlsberg Brewery.

Munkbo buys Zeunerts

The swedish brewery Nya Munkbo buys Zeunerts Bryggeri, Sollefteå, by the estate in bankruptcy. Zeunerts was declard bankropt in october.

Zeunerts are Swedens third biggest cidercompany, and nr. ten in strong beer.

Carlsberg Breweries most sale one brewery in Lithuania

The Lithuanian competition authority has approved the Carlsberg and Orkla deal in Lithuania.

The approval is conditional on the sale of one of the three breweries involved in the deal – Svyturys, Utenos and Kalnapilis. The authority has not specified which one should be sold.

Utenos and Kalnapilis are owned by Baltic Beverage Holding, which is 50 per cent owned by Orkla. Svyturys is 58 per cent owned by Carlsberg.

Carlsberg has accepted the decision and will now consider which of the three breweries will be sold.

BBAG and Binding

A fight for power between the familys behind BBAG/Brau-Union, Austrias biggest brewery group, can lead to a fusion between BBAG and Binding-brewery AG, Frankfurt, one of Germanys biggest brewers. The Binding owner Oetker owns 25 per cent of Schwechart Holding, the mother company for BBAG.

There are many rumours, but BBAG and Oetker are quiet.

San Miguel rose 24 per cent

San Miguel Corporation, the Philippines' largest food and beverage company, today announced that it manitained appreciable growth in the first nine month of 2000 as its net profits rose 24 per cent.

The revenue for the Philippine beer operation in the same period increased five per cent. San Miguel now accounts for over 90 per cent of the Philippine beer market following more aggressive distribution and market penetration.

SMC's international beer operations hit a record of 28.6 million cases, 11% higher than 1999.

Ambev sells the Bavaria beer brand

Ambev, the lagest brewer in Southamerica, has sold the Bavaria beer brand and five bottling plants til Molson, Canadas largest brewery.

Bavaria has a marketshare of 3,3 per cent in Brazil.

Brazil's anti_trust agency (Cade) had ordered the sale of Bavaria as a condition for its approval in March of the merger between Brahma and Antartica, the two largest brewers, to form Ambev.

Carlsberg buys Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann

Carlsberg A/S has reached an agreement with the Swiss Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann Holding AG to acquire the entire Feldschlösschen Beverages Division.

Carlsberg intends to introduce and brew the Carlsberg brand as a new premium beer to the Swiss market, to strengthen the Feldschlösschen beverages group through investments, to establish a centre of excellence for the non-alcoholic beers of the Carlsberg Group in Rheinfelden.

Feldschlösschen Hürlimann controls 45 per cent of the beer market in Switzerland and the Feldschllösschen brand accounts for 24 per cent of total beer sales in the country. The brewer also owns Cardinal, the country's second_largest beer brand which has an 11 per cent share of the Swiss market.

Strong drop in results at Okocim

The breweries in Poland are not doing very well. Specialy bad is it for Okocim, which Carlsberg owns 47 per cent of.

The turnover for the brewery has dropt down 12 per cent in the first nine months this year, and the net result are falden from 3 m $ to 1 m $.

Carlsberg are making a modernization at Okocim, which means, that Okocim will go from a capacity on 0,7 m to 2,3 m hectoliter beer.

Strong results for Ambev

Ambev,the world's fourth-largest beverage companie, announced a third_quarter net profit of $202m compared with a net big loss in the same period last year.

The profit came as a result of higher sales and synergy gains from the merger earlier this year between Brahma and Antartica, Brazils two largest brewers.

New brewery in Norway

Thomas Meinich og Jan Petter Naustvik establish the new Brewery Østerdalen in Åmot, Norway. The brewery shall, according to the plan, make the first production of beer in november. The brewery will have a maximum production of 9000 liter beer each day, and have in view to be a nichebrewery.

Tønsberg Bryggeri AS, who are not brewing beer, owns 20 per cent of the new brewery, and have sold the breweryequipment to the new brewery.

The model for the Brewery Østerdalen is Trio Bryggeri in Skien, a small nichebrewery.

Interbrew can be forced to sell Bass

The UK Competition Commission has nine possible remedies, that it would discuss with Interbrew, the Belgian beer company, over the coming week, according to the brewerys buy of the Bass Brewery.

The worst would be to force Interbrew to sell its entire Bass brewing business. That will only happen if an investigation found that the merger acted against the public interest.

Veltins buys part of Maisel

The Brewery C.&A. Veltins, the 4. greatest in Germany, buys 35 per cent of the brewery Maisel, Bayreuth, concerning to form an strategic alliance.

Both brewerys plans to strength their brands with the alliance. Maisel shall sell Veltins_Pils in Southgermany, and Veltins shall sells Maisels products in the rest of Germany, and on the international markets.

Zeunerts bankrupt

The brewery Zeunerts, Sweden, was the other day declared bankrupt. At the same time is it expected that the brewery continues its aktivities in an attempt to find a buyer.

The swedish brewery Koppersberg has earlier tryed to buy Zeunerts, but due to personal discrepancys was it never carryed out.

Now is it posible, that Koppersberg nevertheless buss the brewery, but now by the estate in bankruptcy.

Asahi cuts down

Asahi Breweries, Japan, plans to cut up to 1000 employees by December 2004. The breweries has now af total work force of 11.000 people.

At the same time Asahi plans to enter the low-malt brew market, whitch is rapidly expanding in Japan.

The company originally expected a 7 per cent increase in beer sales by volume in the January to September period, but they came in at just 0.8 per cent higher. Because of that are Asahi planing the changes.

Asahis Super Dry brand are the most popular brand in Japan, and has reached a record levels of 44 per cent of market share.

Bryggerigruppen owns now Albani

Bryggerigruppen, the second lagest brewer in Denmark, owns now 87,1 % of the stocks in Albani Bryggerierne, Denmark. The lagest brewer in Denmark, Carlsberg, has sold their 15 % of the stocks to Bryggerigruppen (Ceres, Thor, Faxe, Cains, Tauras).

The trade means that Maribo Bryghus, owned by Albani, survive, and continue to brew beers.

Erfurter Riebeck buys Wernesgrüner

An ten year long "war" about Wernesgrüner brewery, Leipzig, Germany, are over. Erfurter Riebeck Gruppe buys 51,03 pct of the stocks. The group pays over 50 m DM for the brewery, who mainly brews premium beers.

Big fire in german brewery

A big fire in Gilde-Brauerei in Hannover, Germany, has caused damage for about 25 m DM. The fire arised in connextion whit a rebuilt in the brewery. The fire broke out in a 36 meter large yeasttank and spread quickly.

Yeast- and lagertanks, who was nearly empty, was affected by the fire. The southhouse and the filluphall was unaffected, therefore the fire won’t get any immediate consequences.

Accused of illegal cartels

The European Commission has accused Belgian and Luxembourg brewers of operation in illegal cartels. In Belgium are Interbrew and Alken Maes, the two largest brewers under suspicion. The two smaller brewers Haacht and Martens, have been sent warnings.

So_called "statement of objections" have been sent to a handful of Luxembourg brewers, including Bofferding, Diekirch, Mousel et Clausen, Battin and De Wiltz.

More than 20 from Voralrberg, Austria, brew there own beer

Gerold Hofmann, brewmaster on Egger Brauerei, Austria, has open a course, where locals can learn to brew there own beer.

- Unfortunately we drink more and more "industribeer", but ones it was not so, remember Gerold Hofmann.

He holds the courses in a small room at the brewery. More than 20 have until now learn the art of beer brewing.

Big German brewer cuts down

Brau & Brunnen, the german brewer in Dortmund and Berlin will begin a great switch over of the company. Brau & Brunnen will focus on beers. Therefore will several not-core business come on the sales list.

The reason is several years of bad income. Brau & Brunnen have many german beer brands fx. Jever and Berliner Pilsener. The Danish brewer Carlsberg and german Hamburger Holsten-Braueri, among others, are interested in the brands.

The canceled fusion, in where BrauHolding, Dortmund, Germany, should be part means, that the brewerygroups future are uncertain. It is mentioned to relance some of the brewerys brands. But a fusions with others brewerys are also a posibility. Danish Carlsberg is, by its company i Mönchengladbach interested, and so is the Hamburger Holsten_Gruppe.

Eastgerman brewery will be leading in Eastgermany

Sternquell-Brauerei in Paluen, Eastgermany, will, with a new advertising campaign establish it self as the premium-beermark for all in Eastgermany. The brewery will try to strike the eastgerman identity and a new eastgerman selfconceit. The campaign begins oktober in Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Thüringen.

Karlsberg has growing beersales

Homburger Karlsberg-Brauerei, Germany, rose with there beersales, in a german market, who generaly falls. Karlsberg hat in 1999/2000 a 19,1 per cent growht in turnover to 1,1 bn. DM. The beerpart have rose with 4,5 per cent to 561,6 m DM, the rest comes from alcoholfree drinks.

Carlsberg rise 26 per cent

Carlsberg expects that the fourth quarter results will not show the same upward trend as the first three quarters because of unfavourable summer weather in Europe. The company reported a rise in operating profit of 26 per cent for the nine months to June 30.

The second largest brewer in Denmark, Bryggerigruppen, looks like the buyer of Albani Brewery, who have a 10 per cent share of the danish beermarket. Carlsberg has resigned in the betting competision, and Albani perfer the bid from Bryggerigruppen.
