Bryggerigruppen wants to sell Cain

The danish brewer Bryggerigruppen wish to sell their UK brewery Robert Cain & Co, whom they bought in 1991.

The wish appear in the latest stock exchange message, where the group at the same time lower their estimate for 2001 to a result of 135-155 mio. dkr. after at disappointing christmassale.

Coors buys Carling

The US brewer Coors is buying the Carling brand for £ 1.2 billion from Interbrew in the UK.

Interbrew was ordered to sell Carling by UK regulators after Interbrew bought Bass Brewers and Whitbread in the UK.

The approval of UK regulatory is expected to be completed by Februar 2002.

Schultheiss are earning money

After several years with red figures can the German brewer Berliner Schultheiss Brauerei again enjoy the black figures on the bottomline, reports Berliner Morgenpost, who has asked business people.

That means that the Dortmunder Brau und Brunnen daughter Schultheiss is in successful progress for the first time in several years.

The progress be due to the relatively new brand Berliner Pilsener, who grown 13 per cent the last year. In return are the brand Berliner Schultheiss still falling-off.

Berliner Schultheiss Brauerei employ 560 people in Berlin.

Carlsberg win the right to carlsberg.no

Oslo citycourt has convicted the norwegian pubowner Eugene McGlynn to hand over the Internet domainenames carlsberg.no and tuborg.no to Carlsberg Breweries. Eugene McGlynn is also convicted to pay 50.000 dkr in compensation plus 58.893 dkr. in costs to Carlsberg Breweries.

Eugene McGlynn had the pub "Slainte Irish & Sports Bar" in Oslo. To make interest for the place he got the idea to registrete the names carlsberg.no and tuborg.no and use them on the Internet.

Interbrew looking for posibilities to buy SAB

Interbrew, the Belgian brewer, are analysing the posibilitys to buy South African Breweries, writes Finansiel Times, London.

Hugo Powell, CEO Interbrew, admitted that research on SAB had been carried out for Interbrew, but said there had been no talks on the matter with SAB.

If Interbrew buys SAB it will be the worlds second biggest brewer, only marginally smaller than Anheuser-Busch, USA.

Heineken close Haldengut

The dutch brewer Heineken close the brewery Haldengut, Winterthur, Switzerland May 2002. The production will be moved to Heinekens brewery Calanda Bräu in Chur.

The productionfacilites in Haldengut are outdated, and an enlargement of the brewery are to expensive, estimates Heineken. Therefore will the production be moved.

Heineken bought Haldengut in 1999.

BBH acquires brewery in Belarus

The BBH subsidiary Baltika Brewery has entered an agreement to acquire majority shareholding of the brewery Krinitsa situated in Minsk, Belarus.

The present capacity of Krinitsa is 70 million litres of beer annually and the brewery is the market leader with a market share of approx. 21 per cent. The first phase of modernisation of the brewery, which will be completed next spring will among other things bring the brewery's quality of beer up to Western standards.

BBH is owned by Carlsberg, Denmark, and Hartwall, Finland.

Interbrew up 18 per cent

Interbrew, the belgian brewer, reported excellent trading results over the first nine months of the year. Compared with the same period last year and excluding Bass Brewers' UK beer business, both volume and net turnover were up by 18% and 28% respectively and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) grew 12%. Organic growth of operating profit was 14%.

South African Breweries, SAB, are a part of a new joint venture in China with Sichuan Blue Sword Breweries Group. CRE Beverage, who SAB owns 49 per cent stake in, forms a new company together with Sichuan in the south-west China.

SAB becomes joint owner of 25 breweries in China and the countrys secondlargest brewery group after Tsingtao.

The German brewer Binding-Brauerei take over by November 1. the brewery neighbour Henninger Brauerei in Frankfurt.The take over is taking place to create a "Frankfurter-solution", and not becouse of an strategic plan.

Both brewers has experienced a fall in the sale of their most important brands Henninger Kaiser Pilsner og Binding. The fall is 30 per cent totaly in one year.

The take over include Henningers Highlander, but not Gerstel and Karamalz, which are to be brewed by Mannheimer Eichbaum-Brauereien AG, who like Henninger is a part of Actris AG.

Carlsberg has today relased Abbey Ale on the danish market. The ale has earlyer been tested on a small number of restaurants. Now is 50.000 botles send out too wineshops, ISO and Dreisler markets, specialstores and restaurants.

Interbrew must sell Carling in UK

The UK goverment desidede Tuesday to order Interbrew to sell the Carling, Caffery’s and Worthington brands, to end the Bass Brewery battle.

The sale will leave Interbrew as the number three brewer in the UK after Scottish & Newcastle and whoever buys the Carling brand, which, as UK’s biggest brand, has a marketshare of 18.1 per cent.

As buyes is Heineken, SAB and Anheuser Busch mentioned. Carlsberg-Tetley announced in June, that they were interested in buying Carling.

Foster’s international EBIT increased strongly

The Australian beverage group Foster’s profit by the international sale of Foster’s lager and the sale of Molson outside the brewerys homemarket performed strongly in the last year. The earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) has gone up from $ 6.6 m to 24.3 m. That is a improvement of 268.2 per cent.

In Australia was the improvent 4.9 per cent.

After 47 years is Kirin Brewery not the nr. one brewer in Japan. Asahi has in first half of 2001 sold 100,3 m cases of beer, and Kirin has only sold 99,1 m cases.

Asahi’s new low-malt brand Honnama has tripled the company’s sales expectations since the beer came on the market in February.

Victory for W&B

Shareholders controlling 53 per cent of Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries in England rejected the hostile £485m ($689m) bid from Pubmaster yesterday.

The chief executive of Pubmaster, John Sands, said: "We are disappointed with the outcome but respect the views of Wolves' shareholders.

It is thought unlikely that Pubmaster will attempt a fresh bid.

W&B are still planing to close Mansfield Brewery and sale the Camerons brewery in Harlepool.

Carlsberg Breweries has bought several breweries in Poland. Bosman Browar Szczecin S.A. (Bosman) and Kasztelan Browar Sierpc S.A. (Kasztelan), both owned by the German Bit_burger beverage group. Furthermore, Carlsberg Breweries has acquired the majority shareholding in Browary Dolnoslaskie Piast S.A. (Piast) through the Dutch holding company Dyland.

Carlsberg Okocim becomes an undisputed number three brewery in the Polish market with a total production of nearly 4 million hl beer.

Interbrew buys Beck’s

The Beligan brewer Interbrew has paid DM3,5bn ($1.56bn) for the fourth-biggest brewer in Germany, Beck’s & Co.

Interbrew was willing to pay that price to get an international brand, witch they had longed for.

Beck’s has a volume of over 5.5m hectolitres. Approximately 60 per cent of its beer production is exported, the main export market being the United States. Beck's is the most important German brand internationally with presence in more than 120 countries.

It is likely that the german brewery Becks & Co will be sold in a couple of days. The 67 shareholders has hat a debate about the future for the brewery, and it is predicted that the brewery will be sold to a foreign brewer.

South African Breweries, SAB, are in shopping mood this summer. In the last days they have bought the control of to breweries, Mysore Breweries in India and Nile Breweries in Uganda.

Labatt, the canadian brewer, celebrates the World Championships in Athletics with a special Blue collector can series.

Carlsberg will buy Carling

Carlsberg-Tetley, UK, inform the British government on tuesday, that it would like to buy the Carling lager brand - or the rights to make Stella Artois in the UK. The announcement is a attempt to solve the problems about Interbrews buy of The Bass Brewerys in UK, writes Financial Times.

Carlsbergs plasticbottle is a succes in Denmark

140 fired workers from Guinness brewery in Dundalk receive 14 bottles of premium beer every week for next decade.

The workers gets also a generous sums of cash, free private health care, and scholarships for children. Carlsberg acquires controlling interest in Türk Tuborg

Carlsberg Breweries has concluded an agreement to increase its shareholding in the Turkish brewery Türk Tuborg from 2.24% to 50.01% by acquiring a 47.77% stake of the total share capital from Yasar Holding. The parties have estimated the total value of Türk Tuborg to be approximately DKK 960 million. Yasar Holding will retain about 15% of the share capital. Türk Tuborg is listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

The Thor Breweries museum in Randers, Denmark, opend yesterday a comprephensive enlargement. The reason was, that the museum had received two beercollections from respectively deceased editor Svend Aage Dantoft, Randers, and pensionist Svend Aage Pedersen, Randers.

Interbrew wins appeal in UK

Interbrew, one of the worlds biggest brewers, has won the first battle in The High Court over the Competition Commission in UK.

The High Court ruled that Competition Commission acted unfairly. The commission should have given Interbrew an opportunity to comment on an alternativ plan, instead of forcing the Interbrew to sell al of Bass.

W&B has long negotiated with Robert Breare, the entrepreneur, and Pubmaster, to buy the company. But the negotiations has become too prolonged.

Wolves also said the changes to its production operations, which include the sale of Camerons Brewery to the Castle Eden Brewery and the transfer of brewing at Mansfield to Wolverhampton, would reduce annual operating costs by £4m and realise £16m of cash over the next three years.

Mossebeer revival

Mosseølets Venner (Mossbeers Friends), Norway, has again reason to be glad, writes Norøls Beerletter. The Brewery Borg has accepted to brew Mossepils after originalrecipe. Maj 11. 2001 invites the people of Moss to taste the brew on Moss By-og Industrimuseum. From that day are Mossepils again availabel in the local stores.

There are plans of building a microbrewery in Møllebyen, where the museum is situated.

Labelcollection in Guinness Book of Records

At a party in Schusterstrasse, Altstadt, Schwerin, Germany, let the winehouse Uhle saturday 20. April a labelcollection present. More than 8000 different labels from wine-, beer- and other drinks schall get the collection a place in Guinness Book of Record in Germany. Up till now are no equivalent record in Germany, but the Guinness editors has to deside the approval of the record.

The oldest label is a winelabel from a Uhlebottle year 1900.

Two stockholdinggroups have for long being strugling for the power over BBAG, Austrias biggest brewerygroup. The owners of Hopfen & Malz Holding, who in January took over the main part of Getränke-Holding, are now taking over the stocks in GH from the Marsoner-family group. With that achieve HMH over 90 per cent of the stocks in GH and full control over BBAG.

Warsteiner Brauerei and Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg Irmgard Prinzessin von Bayern, both Germany, has made a strategic partership. The brewers will strength the sale of "Prinzregent Luitpold Weissbier" and "König Ludwig Dunkel" by forming two new companys.

Canadian wants more free time

More than 46,000 inspired, fun loving people have rallied behind the
Blue Light Free Your Time movement by signing an online petition for a new
long weekend in June.
    Blue Light, the beer from Labatt Brewery, Canada, and the Time Liberation Front (TLF) officially launched the Free Your Time campaign and the June Long Weekend petition on Monday, April 2, at the centre of Canadian 'Big Business' on Bay Street in Toronto.
    "We are overwhelmed by the initial response to the Free Your Time
movement and petition," says Steve Silverstone, Blue Light. "We want Ontarians
to join the "party," help us to continue the fight for more free time and

DAB-brewery in Dortmund, Germany, has lost al of the own capital on 17 m Euro after a catastrophic year. The deficit was 30.5 m Euro.

The brewery avoid to be declared insolvent, while the majority shareholder, Binding-Gruppe, are making a rescueplan.

König increase beercan sales

König Brauerei, Duisburg, Germany, hat a turn over of 187m Euro in 2000. The brewery sold 2,3m hectolitres beer. The König-Pilsener stand for 2,23m, and the alcoholfree Kelts about 67.000 hectolitres.

The brewery hat besides an increase i beercan sales on 27,5 per cent.

Weisse from Carlsberg

This week are Carlsberg, the danish brewer, sending the fourth and last beer in the series Semper Ardens, Weisse, to 30 handpicked restaurants. According to the danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende estimates chief of development at Carlsberg, Torsten Steenholt, that one or mayby two beers from the series possibly will come in common trade.

Ambev result better than expected

The synergy gains from the merger between Brahma and Antartica, the two Brazilian brewers who formed Ambev, has exceeded expectations. The net profit for Ambev for 2000 was R$ 470m ($229m). The year before it was only R$9m ($4,5m).

Ambev sold in 2000 62m hectolitres beer.

Heineken increased its net profit 20 per cent in 2000, compared with 1999. At the same time Heineken increased its sales volume in the United States by 15 per cent for Heineken Beer and 13 per cent for Amstel.

In Europe had the worlds second largest brewer succes in France, Netherland and Italy, but problems in Polan.

The results achieved in Asia continued to rise, while sales in Africa showed a slight increase.

Baltika launching non-alcoholic beer

Baltika, a Rusian brewery, owned 75 per cent by Baltic Beverage Holding (Hartwall and Carlsberg), launcing a non-alcoholic beer "Zero" on thursday 1. Marts.

Russia is one of the world's fastest-growing beer markets, and the brewery feels that the market is ready to with taste and no alcohol.

Heineken has bought 49,9 per cent of Brau Holding, the second largest brewer in Germany. The owner Stefan Schörghuber keep 50,1 per cent. Together the make BrauHolding International.

Besides the cooperation in Germany, Heineken schall marketing Paulaner Weissbier outside Germany.

BBH sells Kalnapilis

The Board of Directors of Baltic Beverage Holding has decided to sell its 87 per cent stake in the Kalnapilis brewery in Lithuania.

In addition, the Board of Directors of BBH is considering merging the Carlsberg Breweries-owned brewery Svyturys with the BBH-owned brewery Utenos Alus at a later date. This will have to be approved by minority shareholders and the Lithuanian competition authorities. Conditional on the merger of the two breweries, Thomas Kucinskas, currently Managing Director of Svyturys will be appointed Managing Director of the combined activities of BBH in Lithuania.

Heineken i probably on it's way to enter the german marked.

According to Schörghuber Group, who owns Brau Holding, are there negotiations with Heineken over the sale of 49 per cent of Brau Holdning. If it ends with a sale, Heineken will be the first of the worlds biggest brewers who take a considerable steep in to the german marked.

Recordresult for Carlsberg

Carlsberg, the danish brewer, made a record profit before tax in the last year, over 3 b DKK. It is 39 per cent better that the year before.

The brewers sale of beer and soft driks grow 7 per cent in the same period.

In spite of the fine results the Carlsberg stock fall heavyly on the Copenhagen Stockexchange. The reason is, according to the stock-analytics, that the future is't looking sufficintly good.

Carlsberg plans to sell brewery in Polan

Okocim, Polan, 47 per cent owned by Carlsberg, Denmark, are making plans to sell a brewery in Chociwel, writes NetPosten on basis of an article in the polish newspaper, Puls Biznesu.

It is also decided, that a brewery in Krakow are to be closed within 2003. The closing and the sale are taking place to reduce overcapacity.

Carlsberg has restructured it's polish activites, and at the same time lost markedshares.

Pakistan’s only brewery, Murree Brewery, has been temporarily closed by the authorities. The reason is,that the brewery produce to much pollution.

New maschinery must be bought in India to stop the pollution.

The closing is a hard blow against the brewery, who in advance only can supply beer to the countrys three per cent non muslims.

Beername to the court

Binding-Gruppe, Frankfurt, Germany, will, by law prevent the brewery Eichbaum in selling "Feuerio Prinzen-Tropfen". Last month revealed Eichbaum the new product with six per cent alcohol, which they make in a cooperation with Feuerio.

The name has a similarity with "Feuerio-Tropfen", which earlier was brewed on Mannheimer Traditionsbrauerei. The rest of that brewery exist today as the brand Habereckl by Binding Group. Untill two years ago had Binding and Feuero a cooperation. Thats is now history, and now wants Binding to stop the new brand on account of the name-similarity with the earliere "Feuerio-Tropfen". Feuerio means, that they have the right to the name. It will now be up to the court.

Royal Spring Beernews of the year 2000Ceres Royal Spring

The society Danske Ølentusiaster ( Danish Beerentusiasts), who counts 1000 members in Denmark, has elected "Ceres Royal Spring" to "The danish beernews 2000".

The finish in the voting was close between Ceres Royal Spring and Thy Økologisk Humle from Thisted Bryghus.

Ceres Royal Spring were victorious with 34 per cent of the votes. Thy Økologisk Humle got 31 per cent.

SAB looks at Nigeria

South African Breweries, SAB, the biggest beermaker in Africa and the worlds fifth-largest brewery, are making plans to entry into Nigeria. The countrys beermarked, the second-largest in Africa, is dominated by Heineken and Guinness owned breweries.

When no interesting breweries are for sale, can building a new brewery be the solution.

The 120m people in Nigeria drink 6,3m Hectoliter of beer a year.

Two danes shall lead Hannen-Tuborg Brewery in Germany. The outgoing chief Micheal Hollmann will be replaced by Björn Sönderskov, now vicepræcident in Carlsberg Copenhagen for Westeneurope and export.

Interbrew accept Bass sale

Interbrew, the Belgian brewer, on Friday 26. of Januar accepted, that it must sell Bass Brewers in UK. But at the same time Interbrew decided, that it will try to be allowed to sell Bass in bids, and also that it can be to financial buyers.

Interbrew wish at the same time to be allowed to develop the Bass activities in the interim, so it can be more attractive for buyers.

Rostocker Brauerei in Germany has for several years called there Pils for "Gold from the coast". Now they have received the official goldmedal from Deutschen Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft.. 135 german beers participates in the voluntarly test, who was made by beerconnoisseurs.

Rosstocker Pils må decorate the Pils with the goldmedal the next two years.

Interbrew forced to sell Bass

The director general of fair trading blocked Wednesday for Interbrews takeover of Bass.

Stephen Byers, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, has decided not to permit the merger between Interbrew SA (Interbrew) and the UK business of Bass Brewers. He accepted the conclusions of the Competition Commission, that the takeover would create an effective brewing and distribution duopoly between Interbrew and Scottish & Newcastle in the UK.

Carlsberg Breweries approved in Finland

The Finnish competition authorities have given conditional approval to Carlsberg A/S and Orkla ASA to establish Carlsberg Breweries A/S.

The authorities have requested that Orkla sells its shareholding in Oyj Hartwall Abp. ( Finland's largest brewery and owner of 50 per cent of Baltic Beverage Holding (BBH)).

In addition:

Carlsberg A/S and Orkla ASA accept that Carlsberg Breweries A/S shall not use its 50 per cent shareholding in BBH to influence Oyj Hartwall Abp and therefore the competitive situation on the Finnish market

Carlsberg A/S shall discontinue its licence agreement with Oyj Hartwall Abp regarding brewing and selling of Tuborg on the Finnish market

Carlsberg A/S and Orkla ASA accept the decision of the Finnish authorities
