Banjul Breweries Ltd. started construction in 1975. The first production started in 1977.

The Brewery, which has a capacity of almost 50.000 hl, has presently an output of 35.000 hl, which is largely depending on the tourist industry.

The majority of the Company shares are held by the German owners, (Brauhause Int. Management GmbH and DAH, both Hamburg), while the balance is held by the Gambian Government.
